I'm looking for information on renting a car for my coming visit to the Ensenada area. I'll fly into San Diego and should I rent a car in the US or in Mexico and any recommendation on which company.

Norm...
I've gone to Ensenada from Portland, Oregon several times. Twice to attend a language school at the International Spanish Institute. If you are going to rent a car, do it in the USA. It's cheaper and you can be sure everything is going to be done right. But why rent a car? Myself, I've driven down twice, but my best trip was when I flew into SD and then took a city bus from the airport to the trolley that runs from SD to the border, about 35 miles. I then walked across the border and hopped on a Mexican bus to Ensenada. The bus depot is within VERY easy walking distance of the border. And the Mexican buses are wonderful...comfortable...and cheap, too! Only $4.50 (USA) to get to Ensenada, about 100 kilometers/ (60 miles!). I plan to return again late this summer or in early fall. If you're interested in attending a language school, contact me, I can save you money. Mucho Suerte Mi Amigo, PetePosted by Brian Carraher on Julio 09, 2000
Both Avis and Hertz allow their cars into Baja California. You must buy your Mexican insurance policy from them at the airport.
