María was born in a small village in the mountains south of the city of Oaxaca, where the women are famous for their beauty – morenas de ojos verdes. It is an area where many Europeans settled to direct the work in the mines and to raise families locally. On the death of her father when she was two months old, María, her mother and sister came to live in the city. Eight years later she lost her mother and was raised by the nuns and educated in Oaxaca and in Mexico City. She returned to Oaxaca where she married at the age of seventeen, honeymooning in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec where she was photographed in the traditional dress of the Tehuana.
Compensating for the early loss of her parents, María is the proud mother of three handsome sons, all married and with children, making her a happy grandmother several times over. She considers herself extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful close-knit family.
Now that her children have left the nest, María has converted the lovely family home into a charming Bed & Breakfast where it is her very great pleasure to receive guests from all parts of the world. Her personal attention and care make a stay in Oaxaca a very special and memorable occasion. Let her welcome you to La Casa de María for an experience you will never forget.
