On my next tip to Akumal I want to visit Chichen Itza for two days. I will fly into Cancun and plan to meet up with family members at Club Oasis in Akumal for the major portion of my trip. I was wondering what type of bus service there is between Cancun and Chichen Itza, and if that service accomodates luggage. I’m thinking that I can possibly catch the tour bus from Chichen Itza to Club Oasis Akumal. Has anyone done this before? I would like to avoid renting a car. Also, I know there are several nice hotels at Chichen Itza, any suggestions?

Answer to last question first. At Chichén, there are 3 very nice hotels; in nearby Piste, several more. Of the three at Chichén, I prefer the Hacienda, which consists of bungalow units only, scattered over the grounds, so you get the feeling of space, rather than being in a hotel. Hotel Mayaland is a beauty, with both a 3 story hotel and bungalow units, but they seem to have maintenance problems. This past December, I stayed in a Mayaland bungalow and found hot water for a shower almost non-existent. I’ve not stayed at Villas Arqueológica, which is run by Club Med.
As for your transportation, there are many buses operating between Cancún and Mérida and down south past Playa del Carmen. These are large, luxury type buses, all of which carry luggage. See link below for bus info.
