Morelia is the capital of Michoacan. The architecture is colonial style and the momentum of civic intent is to promote and preserve this inheritance. The city is organized around a large central square with fountains, trees, a bandstand, and a spectacularly maintained cathedral. There is also a large city park and a zoo.

The Museum of Michoacan southwest of the zocalo is a prime example of colonial architecture. The fountain in the courtyard is a nice touch. A typical muraled wall above the entrance.
In Bosque Cuauhtemoc (the large city park) swans enjoy a swim. A map in the museum shows that the park was once one quarter of the city. It looks to be about a third of its original size.
East of the zocalo on the way to Bosque Chumutepec (park) you will run into this famous fountain and aqueduct.

Workers in the main cathedral entrance chip away the plaster on the base of a column presumably to redo it.
The Plaza del Carmen in a high traffic area grows on you for its unique ambiance of musicians and sidewalk restaurants. The Templo del Carmen in the background is my favorite architectural work of art.
The portico on the north side of the zocalo features the tables for coffee drinking. Even after noon in the heat, coffee is the preferred beverage.
On the second floor of the Palacio de Gobierno a man is taking the old finish off this heavy door so he can refinish it darker like the upper part.
Looking south from the interior of the Palacio de Gobierno you can see the towers of the cathedral in the zocalo.

Hard to get a photo with all the traffic going by this popular Hotel Posada Don Vasco . I should have photographed the Hotel Mintzicuri across the street since it has the more striking architecture. (both 161 pesos single)

Trees in the zocalo just west of the cathedral provide welcome shade.
Templo de San Jose is a towered church some blocks northeast of the zocalo.
The Palacio de Gobierno is frequently the focal point of sit-ins and demonstrations.

The centrally located Morelia bus station is a busy area with lots of street eating places around it.
An interesting widow's peak drop down in the stairway (center) that you have to duck.
